The Charlotte Quilters’ Guild seeks to inspire creativity and build community through education, outreach, and exhibition opportunities for quilters of all backgrounds and skill levels. We celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage of quilting while exploring the work of contemporary quilters to catalyze experimentation, spark imagination, and encourage self-expression through textile craft and design. The Charlotte Quilters’ Guild gathers on the first Wednesday of each month (excluding July) from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Our meetings are open to the public and sponsored by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation at the Tyvola Senior Center. Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Quilting Ministry began its work in 2000 under the leadership of Barbara Hart as chairperson at the request of our first lady, C. Brenda Jones. The purpose of the ministry is to use the craft of quilting to serve and minister to various mission foci while promoting the art of quilting in the African American Community. Completed quilts have been distributed to communities facing disasters such as Princeville, North Carolina and Mississippi flood victims, terminally ill children, sick and shut -in members of the church, HIV/AIDS patients, African and Jamaican children and more. The ministry meets the first and third Saturdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the church on 3400 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216. Membership in the church is not required to be a member of the quilting ministry.
