Welcome to Stitching and Stirring

Stitching and Stirring is a home-based quilting service owned and operated by Marilyn Y. Gore, a lifelong quilter who has stitched literally hundreds of quilts. Marilyn holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly Home Economics), with a concentration in Clothing and Textiles, from Bennett College and Howard University, respectively.

After a 31-year career as a Family and Consumer Sciences Area Agent with the Cooperative Extension Service, Marilyn retired to fully pursue her passion for quilting. Stitching and Stirring is dedicated to the preservation of quilts and the art of quilting, with special emphasis on quilts that reflect African American culture and history.

Stitching and Stirring is committed to providing quality, creative quilts and handcrafted items. Each finished quilt, cosmetic bag, or travel purse is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece—designed to become a cherished family heirloom passed down through generations. Every piece is constructed by a professional quilt artisan with over 50 years of quilting experience. Throughout the creative process, clients receive regular consultations, photographs, and progress updates to ensure their vision is brought to life.
