Just a Quilting Thought, October 31, 2026

I recently told a new quilter, who had just completed the binding on her first quilt, that I never use plain binding on my quilts.

To me, binding is more than a finishing touch. It is the frame that surrounds and enhances the beauty of the art—the quilt top. I believe the binding should complement the colors, patterns, personality, and story of the quilt. It should speak to both me and the quilt itself.

After all, I have created a beautiful piece of art, and I want its final frame to reflect that beauty. The binding should never be an afterthought; it should be part of the art!
